One Long Day/When Did I Do This?

Following the Central Park excursion I walked throughout Manhattan; it never ceases to amaze me. I ran into this funk band playing in the subway terminal called "Funk Monk." A black lady came up to them afterward and said "You guys are pretty funky for some white boys." Hilarious.

I caught this pretty sweet picture of the Empire State Building while passing by:

Either later that day or the next I went walking around Park Slope. Spring was in the air and there were flower petals falling on the streets, and the east coast winds made little tornadoes out of them along the sidewalks...

Central Park/Where's The Maid?

This blog stuff is not going to be as easy as I thought--it's a busy city and finding time to share is, well...you know I love you all right? Here are some things that have happened in the last week or so:

-I rented a BMW. First time ballin'.

I needed to rent a car anyway so I figured what the hell, I'm going to spend $4 more per hr and get a nice car. Now I want one—very punchy on the gas! Rivaling this new-found excitement was my concience+quality of my upbringing and I felt like a total douchebag driving it. I caught myself actually looking around to see if indeed girls actually look at what type of car a guy drives (they don't) and if I could get one of them to hop in and come clean my apartment for me (they wouldn't.) I think I'll start souping up an old Lincoln to run off biodiesel, paint it wine red and then chrome it out. Gotta represent.

-Central park. Kick-ass.

I wandered here last weekend on Saturday, a beautiful SD-like day. I camped for a bit on the Great Lawn, watched the locals play Frisbee and bought a mojito from the mojito man. He had a duffle bag full of mixers, mint leaves, a portable blender...made it right there and we shot the shit a bit. This is of course illegal in NYC, but cops turn a blind eye towards the sun for the greater good of all. Good times.

Blog Entry #1: Welcome to the smorgasbord/My, how the days go on!

Alright, so I finally decided to be the online narcissist and start up an NYC blog for all the people who are probably wondering about how I'm doing in this mad house, and for those I know who are officially wondering.

Will this be updated regularly? No, it will be whenever I'm trying to avoid things I should be doing, riding that beautiful line between childhood and adulthood. Thanks procrastination!

What will be included here? Hell if I know. What is included in the shopping carts of a 99 cent store? Think of it as reaching your hand into the little box at the carnival and trying to figure out if that's a slug, a rotten banana or some wet pasta. And now that the mood is set lets begin...

I'd like to thank Buena Vista Social Club for keeping my evenings sane by giving a much-needed vacation to my mind--good shit folks--give it a listen. The brief summary of my day is this:

-I get up at 3:45 in the morning to ride the train to work. I'm serving lattes. We'll leave it at that...

-I get off around 2:15ish and head back home, do some stuff and teach a few lucky students in the evenings. Some days it's house calls, others at my place. Afterward it's Buena Vista time (if there is time) combined with wrestling my tired eyes to stay open long enough to finish the nights beer. The first beer.

-Somewhere in-between I manage to do all the other little things: advertise on Craigslist, shower (I've been consolidating these into Wednesdays and Saturdays to save time,) check my mail from my PO box, get business cards proofed+updated and printed, play a little music and enjoy the city as I pass it by throughout the daily process. It feels good.

Time to get back out there. You all take it easy now, a'ight.
